North Carolina Citizens Corps (Office of Governor Mike Easley), Nextel Communication and Save A Life Foundation's 2004 NORTH CAROLINA "Race For Life"May 27th - 29th 2004
SALF North Carolina RACE FOR LIFE 2004 (May 2004) - SALF, NEXTEL, NASCAR and North Carolina Citizens Corps joined forces to raise funds and awareness for SALF programs in the state. The North Carolina "RACE FOR LIFE" featured a 3-day booth at Charlotte's "Speed Street", manned by first responder and Citizens Corps Volunteers from North Carolina. The "Race for Life Helmet", which was signed by 25 NASCAR drivers, was the focus of a drawing that raised funds for the first SALF pilot program for North Carolina public schools, which is to take place in fall 2004. The initiative was capped off by a VIP reception at Lowe's Motor Speedway in the "Nextel Experience" (a state-of-the-art NEXTEL/NASCAR facility). In attendance at the reception were top executives from Nextel Sandy Baer and Mark Angelino, Concord, NC Mayor Scott Padgett, NC Secretary for Homeland Security Brian Beatty, Faye Stone (a representative from Governor Mike Easley's office), NC Citizens Corps Director Dr. Richard Hunt (CDC) and SALF President and Founder Carol Spizzirri.
