IL Senate President Advises Children on the Importance of Knowing LFSASALF, November 3, 2004
Chicago, Illinois - Metcalfe Elementary Community Academy, who is co-sponsored by Chicago Public Schools and Ronald McDonald House Charities, was graced with the presence of Illinois State Senate President, Emil Jones, Jr., McDonald's icon, Ronald McDonald and Save A Life Foundation's President/Founder, Carol Spizzirri, during an in-school, life supporting first aid (LSFA) training session on Friday October 22, 2004. "Our school has experienced many success stories, in regards to children saving lives, it is important they continue to receive this training", stated Metcalfe Elementary Assistant Principal, Debra McGhee. President Jones, who has saved three lives himself by using the Heimlich maneuver, is a staunch supporter of SALF and their mission to educate every schoolchild on how to properly perform LSFA techniques, including CPR, basic first aid and the Heimlich maneuver. At the training session, he personally spoke and interacted with the children, urgently explaining the value of knowing LSFA. He also did a demonstration, conveying the proper way to administer the Heimlich maneuver to another child.
"The funding for SALF is an important tool in educating young people in the techniques of life saving. I know personally how important this training can be to avert tragedy. Save A Life Foundation's continuing efforts to educate and inform, impact people's lives every day. One million young people have received this vital instruction since 1997. These dollars will provide life-saving training for many others." - Senate President Emil Jones. Yet again, President Jones has led the Illinois State delegation in securing a spot for SALF in this year's budget. |
