Senator Jones Becomes SALF SpokesmanApril 25 – University of Illinois, Chicago
“ President Jones has lead the challenge in helping SALF pass an Illinois mandate for all police and firefighters to be trained in CPR and First aid prior to graduating from their academy in 1993, He has supported state funds to allow SALF to train over one million Illinois school children in these life saving skills. President Jones is a true humanitarian by saving the lives of three individuals by using the Heimlich maneuver. As our State Spokesman he will encourage others to follow his example of bravery to learn vital skills, especially our school children, should they ever be faced with a life-threatening emergency” – Carol Spizzirri, SALF President/Founder. Urban and Metropolitan Affairs Assistant Dean Dr. James D. Oliver and Urban Leadership Coordinator Doris J. Odem, introduced Senate President Jones to the Forum’s 250 attendees. Where Jones urged the audience to learn these skills, which could alimentally save the life of a loved one. “I know personally how important this training can be to avert tragedy. Save A Life Foundation’s continuing efforts to educate and inform impact people’s lives every day. One million young people have already received this vital instruction since 1997, we need to equip every child with this skills throughout Illinois” – IL Senate President Emil Jones Jr., SALF State Spokesman. Marty Chapman, Chicago Firefighter/EMTP followed Sen. Jones with a hands-on training demonstration of CPR, Heimlich maneuver to the audience, including students from the Finger Academy, Chicago. “As a graduate of Finger Academy, I studied hard and became a emergency medical service provider before joining the Chicago Fire Department. Each day I respond to adults and children whose outcome would have been better if those who were at the scene could have done something before I arrive.” I commend Senator Jones becoming SALF Spokesman, because we in EMS need his leadership to get the word out” - Chapman said. |
