Timing can mean everything, especially when it comes to saving a life. That's why the Save A Life Foundation is dedicated to teaching children and adults what to do in an emergency.
Founded in 1992, the Save A Life Foundation is a national non-profit organization, based outside of Chicago, comminted to making basic first aid training available at schools and businesses. The Wisconsin branch is based at Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare - St. Joseph and serves southeastern Wisconsin working with the Milwaukee Public School System to provide training.
"Save A Life teaches children and adults the basic skills they need to know in an emergency," said Gloria Singleton-Young coordinator of Wisconsin's program. "We help them decide what type of information to give in an emergency and how to protect themselves while they're helping someone else."
Children are taught about dialing 9-1-1, how to respond appropriately should an accident occur, and are encouraged to share what they've learned at home. Adults and older children learn the specifics of CPR, the Heimlich Maneuver, and other skills.
