The resolution requires mayors across the nation to create committees dedicated to community response in emergencies and seek to train citizens in life supporting first aid skills. LINCOLN'S CHALLENGE STUDENTS TO BE TRAINED BY SALFJune 5, 2006In an unprecedented partnership, the Save A Life Foundation (SALF) is teaming with the Lincoln’s Challenge Academy of the National Guard to provide basic life sustaining first aid skills to students attending the academy. The program is expected to train most of the academy's 800 cadets in 2006, and more in subsequent years. The Lincoln’s Challenge Academy will house a newly formed SALF branch at its location in Rantoul, IL and will provide a base for training. VERMONT ELECTRIC POWER COMPANY TO SPONSOR SALF TRAINING TO SCHOOLSMay 22, 2006The Vermont Electric Power Company (VELCO) announced its intention to provide first aid training to all 10,000 students in Rutland County, VT in through SALF by December of this year. The effort is lead by VELCO president John Donleavy who hopes to soon include students throughout the entire state. A FINAL TRIBUTE TO MAYOR IRWIN BOCKMarch 15, 2006Mayor Irwin Bock was a rare individual who motivated everyone who met him throughout his 65 years. His death on March 9, 2006, saddened many hearts he touched, especially those here at the Save A Life Foundation. For virtually a lifetime, Bock was a pillar in his community, Hanover Park, Illinois and country by keeping the welfare of the people his first priority. Throughout his military career of 37 years, his political career, which began in 1983 and ultimately resulted in being elected as Village President in 1997, Bock’s ambition was to make his community a safe haven. The organization's mission is to train and develop "bystanders," including children, as volunteers equipped with Life Supporting First Aid Skills (LSFA) to aid in an emergency. Founded in 1993, SALF has equipped nearly one million children with CPR and first aid skills. The organization provides training to public schools for free with help from state/federal funding and donors.
