Governor Ryan and Chicago Public Schools: Dedication to Emergency Preparedness in SchoolsSubtitleReturn to the Press Release Index By Chicago Board of Education Proclamation the Save A Life Foundation (SALF) has worked together with Gov. George Ryan to prepare Illinois children to be emergency ready. "It starts with the children", say's SALF's president and founder Carol Spizzirri. "Now more than ever we see the need for everyone to be trained in life supporting first aid skills, like the Heimlich maneuver CPR and first aid, to help themselves, fellow classmates and family members, to maintain life of the injured or ill until EMS professionals arrive, Spizzirri said. Over the past year and one half SALF Instructors, all local EMS professionals, have trained nearly 400,000 school age children from K-12th grade, at no cost and is the only program recognized and funded by the state of Illinois to train Illinois students these life saving skills. Truly a "Homeland Security" movement. ###
