September 11th signifies horror in this country and that date also represents 9-11; a call for emergency medical serves.  The public has paid little attention to these men and women who risk their lives to save others, until we need them.  God only knows how much we needed them over the past weeks.  These dedicated individuals need us too!  They need you and I to know what to do to maintain the life of injured or ill person until they arrive.  For years those of EMS have advocated their need for "Bystanders" to be trained in basic life supporting first aid skills to reduce death and disabling injuries with little attention.  Simple, but vital skills that could keep a child and/or parent alive until they are able to administer advanced treatment.  As we witnessed, over 300 of our finest lost their lives in New York, realize that the communities they had served are now without professionals who can help a heart attack victim, a victim of a car crash, an asthma attack, and the list goes on.

Faced with an emergency that has a crippled EMS system, will require summoning EMS from outside regions causing delay in response and delay in treatment.  It is up to YOU the "Bystander", to be the strongest link in the chain of survival.  The Save A Life Foundation, in Schiller Park, IL. asks that you contact your legislators to include the "Bystander" as a part of the EMS system. Only then can we unite as American to face all tragedies with strength, because we will know how to save a life.
