ST. JOSEPH REGIONAL MEDICAL CENTER SAVE A LIFE FOUNDATION AWARDED $75,000 GRANTSubtitleReturn to the Press Release Index (Milwaukee, WI) The St. Joseph Regional Medical Center Save A Life Foundation (SALF) has received a $75,000 grant from the national Save A Life Foundation in Chicago, IL. A check presentation will take place at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center on Thursday, October 28, 2004 at 2:30 p.m. Save A Life Foundation Founder and President Carol Spizzirri will present the check to St. Joseph Regional Medical Center President Ron Groepper and Emergency Department and Save A Life Foundation Medical Director Dr. Mark Mitchell. Funds from the grant will be used to train Milwaukee Public Schools children in life-saving first aid techniques. "SALF teaches students the basic skills students need to know in an emergency," said Dr. Mitchell. "This grant is a significant amount of money. It will allow us to train more than 6,500 children." St. Joseph Regional Medical Center was the first organization in Wisconsin to implement the Save A Life Foundation. Students taking the course learn how to recognize an emergency, control bleeding and open an airway. They also learn how to protect themselves at the scene of an emergency. The program is underwritten by St. Joseph for public school children. A nominal cost is charged for adults training which benefits the free training of school children. Classes are taught by paramedics and others with emergency medical services credentials that have been trained as Save A Life Foundation Instructors.
