Kerry Group, Gridley, Illinois
A leading food ingredients, consumer foods and flavors company

April 15, 2005
We recently completed working six months w/o an OSHA recordable injury. A common occurrence for many plants but our first. Kerry recently purchased Automated External Defibrillators for all the plants. Steve Baron of OSF Saint James Medical Center provided the training we need to prepare for using our unit. SALF personnel will return in May to provide Bystander Basics training for our new people not here for last years training. We have made many changes in our safety program to achieve our recent success but I believe our relationships with OSF and SALF are two of the key elements.

We used SALF recently to train our first responders, supervisors, and managers in proper use of our new AED and plan to have them back next month to re-certify everyone in first aid and CPR. Your organization is such a great resource. I trust you will keep me informed when you expand to additional states. I would want to share that information with Kerry plants in those states.

School District of Philadelphia

In 1997 I brought SALF to the children of the Chicago Public School system to teach Life Supporting First Aid, CPR and the Heimlich maneuver and the results were positive beyond expectations. I look forward to working with you and SALF to bring this empowering program to the Commonwealth and I am happy to assist in any way I can

Round Lake, Illinois Area Schools Community Unit District #116

"District 116 was fortunate to be asked to pilot the Save A Life Foundation's program at our Megee Middle School (grades 7 and 8). We believe students greatly benefited from the program. We would like to be able to continue and even expand offering the program, it financially feasible".

Illinois PTA

"The Save A Life Foundation is a cooperative agency for Illinois PTA and as such is a valuable partner in programs, and resources provided for children and families. We strongly believe and support the concept that first aid training for children and youth can be a valuable asset in giving youth tools to increase the quality of life for themselves and others. As a cooperating agency we support the programs and activities offered by SALF and commend them for the work they do on behalf of children".

"Your organization is an excellent example of how involvement in education can truly make a difference. Our students and teachers have been and will continue to be the recipients of the benefits of that involvement which includes exposure to new technology and AED training.
On behalf of the students and teachers of the Chicago Public Schools, and the people whose lives they may help to save, I again thank you. We look forward to continuing this exceptional partnership.

"They came in and taught far and beyond my expectations for any CPR and First Aid class, while making it completely enjoyable and exciting."Being able to hold the attention of such class is superb. I have taught many crews in this construction company and they definitely taught myself a thing or two. I am currently setting up future dates and will recommend this to the other companies around."You have a great program and best of luck in your quest to make this world a better and safer community. "

The Maternal and Child Health Branch of HRSA is very close to releasing a document that makes recommendations on teaching injury and life saving skills to children. The document identifies what topics and skills are appropriate for a children by age and school class groupings.

Also, the Save A Life Foundation, a member of this list serve, has done an excellent job of taking the NHTSA Bystander Care Program and customizing the topics and skills in the course to be offered in an age appropriated manner. The course developed by the Save A Life Foundation has been recognized and supported by the state of Illinois' Department of Public Health and the State Board of Education.
